rival party.
Cutting across party lines, Chief Ministers and
political leaders paid glowing tributes to Reddy while many
states declared mourning as a mark of respect to the leader
killed in a helicopter crash.
The BJP government in southern state of Karnataka
declared a holiday Friday. In Bihar, the Janata Dal-United
(JD-U) government announced a two-day state mourning.
The Left parties described Reddy as a popular Chief
Minister. "The victory he had achieved in the recent elections
had established his popularity in Andhra Pradesh," Communist
Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member Sitaram
Yechury said. The Communist Party of India (CPI) said Reddy's
demise was a loss not only to Andhra Pradesh but to the entire
