Seoul stocks open higher on Wall Street gains

SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started stronger Friday, taking a cue from overnight gains on Wall Street, analysts said.

The benchmark Korean Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) advanced 3.02 points, or 0.19 percent, to 1,616.55 in the first 15 minutes of trading.

New York stocks bounced back from declines on Thursday as steady retail sales
data encouraged buying. The Dow Jones industrial average added 0.69 percent and
tech-focused Nasdaq composite index gained 0.82 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,245.85 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 0.15 won from Thursday's close.
