CONSTRUCTION OF TIMIKA THERMAL POWER PROJECT STILL DELAYED
Timika, Indonesia, Sept 4 (ANTARA) - The construction of a 14 Megawatt thermal power project (PLTU) in Timika, Papua, is still delayed because it has to pass a second tender process, an official said.
Manager of state-owned electricity company (PLN) for Timika office, Trimanto said here Friday that the process of opening the repeated tender was now in the pre-qualification phase.
"It is now in the process of pre-qualification and document examinations," Trimanto said.
He said that the Timika PLTU project was initially planned for construction in 2008 and was scheduled to begin operations in 2010.
But when it was auctioned in 2007 there was only one company which submitted an application so that it was canceled, and in 2008 the second auction was offered where two companies took part.
The auction committee in Jakarta decided PT MBW as the winner, but the Chinese firm finally withdrew as the project executor after it had conducted a survey in the construction site of the PLTU project, which was located nearby Paumako port, East Mimika district.
In the pre-qualification in Jakarta, there were seven companies submitting applications. The committee decided that five of them had passed the pre-qualification process.
Trimanto said based on the central government instruction the construction of the Timika PLTU project should have been completed last June.***
