LPG DISTRIBUTION IN CONVERSION PACKAGE EXCEEDS TARGET

Jakarta, Sept 6 (ANTARA) - State-owned oil and gas company Pertamina said it had exceeded its target in the distribution of 3-kg cylinder liquefied natural gas (LPG) through the kerosene-LPG-conversion program set for September 3, 2009.

Pertamina spokesman Basuki Trikora Putra said here on Sunday that about 77.4 percent of the conversion packages had been distributed to household consumers and small-and-medium businesses (UKM).

He said that this figure exceeded the target of 66 percent set for September 3, 2009. "Up to September 3, 2009, Pertamina has distributed 18.39 million LPG conversion packages of the targeted 23.77 million packages, or about 77.4 percent," Putra said.

The Pertamina official said that the amount of kerosene which had been withdrawn this year as a consequence of the conversion program had reached 3.26 million kiloliters.

In the meantime, the total of 3-kg-cylinder LPG that had been distributed through the conversion program since 2007 had reached 37.44 million units.

Putra said that the conversion program was still running in the provinces of Riau Islands, Lampung, South Sumatra, North Sumatra, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, East Kalimantan and South Sulawesi.

The government is launching the kerosene-to-LPG conversion program in an effort to reduce the large amount of kerosene subsidy.
