Dead body of an Indian woman at Riyadh airport over 72 hours

Dubai, Sept 6 (PTI) The embalmed body of an Indian woman
has been lying at Saudi Arabia's Riyadh airport over 72 hours
after an Air India flight in which the corpse was to be sent
back developed a technical snag at Mumbai airport two days
ago.

As a result of delay in the flight taking off for Riyadh
from Mumbai, the body of Indian housemaid N Satyawati, 39,
which was to be sent back in India by same aircraft, has been
lying at Riyadh's King Khaled International Airport (KKIA) for
over 72 hours, a newspaper report has said Sunday.

The engine of Air India's Boeing 747-400 which was
Riyadh-bound had caught fire while taxiing for take-off from
Mumbai airport on Friday.

Besides the dead body, several other passengers are also,
facing inconvenience as the incident at Mumbai airport caused
a rescheduling of flights, Shihab Kottukad, general secretary
of Pravasi Rehabilitation Centre (PRC), an NGO for Indian
workers, told Arab News.

Satyawati, who died fortnight ago worked in Riyadh for
nine months. She hailed from Matthaparu, a village in Andhra
Pradesh.

Kottukad, who has been handling Satyawati's case,
expressed fears that the corpse might start smelling although
it has been embalmed with formaldehyde.

Satyawati's body may be sent Sunday on the next AI
flight, Kottukad said.

AI officials have refuted claims that flights had been
disrupted saying that all flights were now operating on time.
