Seoul stocks open higher on Wall Street gains
By Lee Youkyung
SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares started stronger Monday, as
investors took comfort from gains in U.S. markets, analysts said.
The benchmark Korean Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) climbed 4.58 points, or
0.28 percent, to 1,613.48 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
New York stocks closed higher Friday bolstered by U.S. unemployment data that
showed smaller-than-expected job cuts in August. The Dow Jones industrial average
rose 1.03 percent and the Nasdaq composite index advanced 1.79 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,236.85 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 4.65 won from Friday's close.
