Russian nuke envoy in Seoul for talks on N. Korea
SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Yonhap) -- A Russian nuclear envoy arrived here Monday for talks
with South Korean and U.S. officials on ways to resume the six-party talks over
North Korea's nuclear program.
"Grigory Logvinov, deputy head of Moscow's delegation to the now-stalled
six-nation negotiations, arrived in South Korea for a three-day stay," foreign
ministry spokesman Moon Tae-young said at a press briefing.
Logvinov plans to meet his South Korean counterpart Hwang Joon-kook, Seoul's
chief nuclear negotiator Wi Sung-lac, and Hur Chul, director general of the
foreign ministry's Korean Peninsula peace regime bureau, on Tuesday, Moon said.
The Russian official is also scheduled to meet Sung Kim, who is in charge of
Washington's day-to-day dealings with Pyongyang as an assistant to Stephen
Bosworth, the U.S. special representative for North Korea policy.
Kim is a member of the inter-agency U.S. delegation led by Bosworth that is
currently on a regional tour. The delegation traveled to Beijing and Seoul and is
now in Tokyo, seeking ways to break a stalemate in the denuclearization process
as the North continues to refuse to return to the disarmament talks.
Kim will fly back to Seoul on Tuesday for the meeting with Logvinov, who is to
leave South Korea on Wednesday, officials said.
