EXTRA FLIGHTS TO, FROM BALI AVAILABLE AHEAD, DURING IDUL FITRI
Denpasar, Indonesia, Sept 7 (ANTARA) - A number of airlines will make extra flights with 24 wide-bodied planes between Denpasar and other cities in Indonesia ahead and during the Idul Fitri holiday season, a provincial transportation official said,
"The planes will fly from Bali's Ngurah Rai international airport to several cities in Indonesia and vice versa," coordinator of Bali province's Idul Fitri transportation services, Sugeng Sugianto, said here on Monday.
The non-scheduled extra flight, he said, will be available in the period September 14-27, 2009 or seven days before and after idul Fitri.
"We hope the extra flights will meet the increased demand for air transportation during this year's home-coming season," Sugeng said.
On the other hand, scheduled flights from Ngurah Rai airport to several cities in Indonesia would reach 76 per day with a total capacity of 10,520 seats while international flights would be made 30 times a day with a total capacity of 20,480 seats.
With these planned numbers of flights, Sugeng said, he was optimistic the drastic surge in air travellers ahead and during the forthcoming holiday season to and from Bali would met properly.
Extra land and sea transport services to and from Bali could also be made available, Sugeng added.
Earlier, Transportation Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal had said the number of home-bound travellers during this year`s Indul Fitri holiday season will increase by 16 percent to 16.4 million people compared to last year.
"We are ready to overcome a leap in the number of travellers in this year`s home-coming season by providing a total of 36.4 million seats on all modes of transportation," the minister said.
Of the total of 16.4 million home coming travellers predicted this year, 6.6 million would use land transportation and 1.2 million sea transportation.
"The number of people using land and sea transportation will increase by 3.3 percent and 10 percent respectively," the minister said. ***
