GTZ GRANTS YEMEN OVER €15 MILLION TO UPGRADE WATER INSTITUTIONS



SANA'A, Sep. 07 (Saba) - Yemen and GTZ signed here on Monday an
implementation agreement of € 15.8 million on the second stage 2009
- 2011 of the program of water sector's institutional development in
Yemen.

Upon the agreement, the Ministry gets the sum to commence the
implantation of second stage of the program that will last for 2015.

The program includes five key components aim to enhance reform
process in water and sanitation sectors in the urban areas, develop
human resources in water sector, improve independent commercial
facilities for water and sanitation sectors, support the
decentralization in water resources management and strengthen local
bodies in arid areas for a sustainable use of waters in Amran
governorate.

The three-year second stage intends to support the concerned bodies
in water resources management and local water facilities to do their
duties in accordance with the updated national strategy and the
water investment program.

The program is carried out by the GTZ in cooperation with the Water
and Environment Ministry.

The German government has granted Yemen €13.3 million for the first
stage 2006 - 2009.
