Seoul stocks open 0.7 pct higher on tech, financial gains

SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares got off to a strong start Tuesday as foreign and institutional investors picked up tech and financial stocks, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) advanced 11.34 points, or
0.7 percent, to 1,619.91 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Most sectors traded in positive territory with tech and financial companies
leading the key index. Hynix Semiconductor rose more than 2 percent and Woori
Finance Holdings gained nearly 3 percent, rebounding from losses in the previous
session.
The local currency was trading at 1,231.45 to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., up
2.05 won from Monday's close.
