POSCO to build automotive steel processing plant in China

SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- POSCO, South Korea's biggest steelmaker, said Tuesday that it plans to build another automotive steel processing plant in China to meet demand from automakers in the country.

The plant in Shenyang, to be completed by June next year, will be the company's
sixteenth in the country and will be able to process 170,000 metric tons of steel
a year.
China is expected to produce around 10 million vehicles this year. Last year,
Chinese automakers produced 9.36 million units.
General Motors Corp., BMW AG and other major automakers are currently producing
automobiles in China, and demand is expected to rise sharply down the road,
according to the steelmaker.
POSCO recently completed steel processing plants in Japan and Malaysia. It now
has 40 steel processing centers in 12 countries.
