FINANCE MINISTER : BPK FREE TO AUDIT BANK CENTURY
Jakarta, Sept 8 (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said she would give the State Audit Board (BPK) the widest possible freedom to conduct an investigative audit on the bailout funds injected into ailing Bank Century.
"I will let the BPK have the widest possible freedom to conduct an investigative audit on Bank Century. There is nothing that needs to be covered up," Sri Mulyani said after attending a gathering at Gedung Djuanda on Monday night.
She said, last September 2 her office had received a letter from BPK about its plan to do an investigative audit on problematic Bank Century.
"We have received a letter from BPK about the investigative audit, and I say I will open the way for the Board to do so," Sri Mulyani said.
Meanwhile, House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Agung Laksono said recently that the House would ask the Supreme Audit Board to conduct an investigative audit on Bank Century.
"The DPR will ask the BPK to do an investigative audit," Laksono said on the sidelines of a House plenary session at the legislative building here last Tuesday.
He said the BPK should conduct the investigative audit in order to get objective information on the possibility of state losses caused by the Bank Century case.
"The results of BPK's investigative audit will serve as reference data for the House of Representatives," Laksono said.
A member of the House's Commission XI, Dradjad H. Wibowo, expressed hope that the BPK would be independent in carrying out the investigative audit on Bank Century.
"The audit is important and therefore BPK should be independent and present the results candidly ," Dradjad said, adding that after the audit, the BPK should explain if there were inaccurate procedures followed or decisions made by Bank Indonesia, the Finance Ministry, or Deposit Insurance Agency (LPS).
