Two more bodies found at flood site near N.K. border
YEONCHEON, South Korea, Sept. 9 (Yonhap) -- Rescue workers discovered Wednesday the bodies of two more campers who went missing over the weekend near the border with North Korea when a dam unleashed a flash flood that swept them away.
Authorities said they discovered the body of Baek Chang-hyun, 38, and an
eight-year old boy Lee Yong-taek near a bridge at the Imjin River, 60km northeast
of Seoul.
Early Sunday morning, some 40 million tons of water from North Korea's Hwanggang
Dam pushed through the Imjin River that runs through South Korea's western
region, sweeping away six people who were fishing or camping along the
riverbanks.
The victims were about 25km south of the border at the time of the incident. One
person still remains unaccounted for.
The North claimed it opened the dam due to a sudden surge in the water level and
said it will notify the South in the future before similar discharges.
Seoul on Tuesday demanded a more thorough explanation and an apology from
Pyongyang over the incident, saying its response was not acceptable.
