BEI INDEX WEAKENS ON SMALL-CAP LOSSES
Jakarta, Sept. 9 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) went down here on Wednesday morning on small-cap share losses.
The BEI index went down 5.582 points or 0.24 percent to 2,365.554 points and the LQ-45 index weakened 1.570 points or 0.33 percent to 469.081 points.
The Indonesian stocks again slumped as the prices of small-cap shares fell , according to Harry Kurniawan, a domestic capital market observer from PT Makinta Securities.
BEI's transactions only reached a total value of Rp2.5 trillion, significantly down form Rp4.5 trillion from the figure in previous trading days.
Investors tended to ignore positive external factors such as the Wall Street gains following the beginning of the economic recovery, he said.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average index surged 54.49 points to 9,495.76 points at the market's close Tuesday evening, he said.
At the Indonesian bourse, Antam shares fell Rp50 to Rp2,475, Astra Agro Lestari shares lost Rp100 to Rp21,450, Inco shares dropped Rp50 to Rp4,325, and Bukit Asam and Telkom shares went down Rp50 per share respectively.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian currency traded at Rp9,915-Rp9,925 per US dollar, up 70 points from Rp9,985-Rp9,995 at the market's close a day earlier.
