Seoul stocks open higher on Wall Street gains

SEOUL, Sept. 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares started stronger Thursday as
overnight gains in U.S. markets encouraged investor sentiment, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 8.42 points, or
0.52 percent, to 1,616.19 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. shares rallied on Wednesday as a weak dollar pushed shares of American
exporters higher. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.53 percent and the
tech-laden Nasdaq composite index advanced 1.11 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,226.85 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 0.15 won from Wednesday's close.
