INDONESIAN STOCKS REACH OVER 2,400 POINTS
Jakarta, Sept. 10 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on Thursday morning climbed on blue chip and small-cap gains.
The BEI index went up 23.136 points or 0.99 percent to 2,406.47 points, and the LQ-45 index rose 5.210 points or 1.12 percent to 469.04 points.
Investors were encouraged to buy shares following rallies at Wall Street over the past four days, Edwin Sinaga, a domestic capital market observer, said here early Thursday.
Foreign investors were also optimistic and the global economy was recovering, he said.
Among shares which gained were automotive company Astra shares that surged Rp950 to Rp31,200, cigarette company HM Sampoerna shares which advanced Rp200 to Rp10,4590, state telecommunication company PT Telkom shares which jumped Rp100 to Rp8,450 and United Tractor shares which climbed to Rp14,450 per share.
Shares of state bank BRI, private bank BCA and another private bank Mayora went up at the average of Rp50, he said.
Meanwhile, the rupiah slightly weakened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here early Thursday on profit taking moves.
The Indonesian currency traded at Rp9,925-Rp9,935 per US dollar, down 10 points from Rp9,915-Rp9,925 per dollar at the market's close a day earlier.***
