RUPIAH SLIGHTLY WEAKENS ON PROFIT TAKING MOVES
Jakarta, Sept. 10 (ANTARA) - The rupiah slightly weakened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here early Thursday on profit taking moves.
The Indonesian currency traded at Rp9,925-Rp9,935 per US dollar, down 10 points from Rp9,915-Rp9,925 per dollar at the market's close a day earlier.
The market was actually still positive toward the local unit as the euphoria of buying the currency continued, Kostaman Thayib, banking retail director of PT Bank Mega Tbk, said here on Thursday morning.
"We are optimistic that the rupiah still has a chance to move upward to the level of Rp9,900 per US dollar," he said.
Last Wednesday morning, the rupiah significantly strengthened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on high demand for the local currency.
The Indonesian currency traded at Rp9,915-Rp9,925 per US dollar, up 70 points from Rp9,985-Rp9,995 at the market's close a day earlier.
Meanwhile, the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on Thursday morning climbed on blue chip and small-cap gains.
The BEI index went up 23.136 points or 0.99 percent to 2,406.47 points, and the LQ-45 index rose 5.210 points or 1.12 percent to 469.04 points.***
