PRESIDENT CHAIRS CABINET MEETING TO DISCUSS VARIOUS ISSUES
Jakarta, Sept 10 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono chaired a cabinet meeting at his office here on Thursday afternoon to discuss various issues.
The issues included the latest domestic situation, including preparations for the celebration of Idul Fitri (post-fasting month festivity).
In his opening address at the meeting, the head of state stressed the need of maintaining public services during Idul Fitri, and also spoke about relations with neighboring countries, and the bill to give a special administrative status to Yogyakarta.
President Yudhoyono concluded his address by saying the next cabinet would no longer include some of the present ministers but smartness and capabilities such as were possessed by Vice President Jusuf Kalla would continue to be at a premium.
Present at the meeting were Vice President Jusuf Kalla and all cabinet members among others Acting Coordinating Minister for Economy Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS, Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto, Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirayuda, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Industry Minister Fahmi Idris, and other ministers.
Also present were National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief Gen Djoko Santoso, National Police Chief Gen Bambang Hendarso Danuri, Attorney General Hendarman Supandji, and State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Chief Syamsir Siregar.
Before the meeting was started, Vice President Jusuf Kalla was seen chatting with a number of ministers including Industry Minister Fahmi Idris and Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu.
The vice president had just arrived from Makassar, South Sulawesi, to attend the 53rd anniversary of Hasanuddin University (Unhas).
On the occasion, Kalla said Unhas should have its own character and not to be a "photocopy" of other universities in the country.
"Hasanuddin University should have its own characteristics like other prominent universities. Therefore, Unhas should not be a photocopy of other universities," Kalla said, adding that South Sulawesi people in general had a strong character and were tough in their will and attitudes. ***
