CULTURE, TOURISM SECTORS NEED SEPARATE MINISTRIES
Denpasar, Indonesia, Sept 10 (ANTARA) - The culture and tourism sectors need to be overseen by separate ministers in President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's next cabinet, a tourist industry executive said.
"The tourism sector should be covered by one ministry and the the cultural sector by another ministry which could also handle education," chairman of the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association Centers (HPI), I Nyoman Kandia, said here on Thursday.
Kandia, who is also of the Executive Board of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations, said the separation of the ministerial posts between tourism and culture would give a maximal chance to advancing the country's tourism.
Thus, the one who is trusted as his aide by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would be able to make maximal breakthroughs for increasing the tourism growth and foreign exchange earning.
He said that the fund allocated for the development of the tourism sector could be used maximally to promote and expand the Indonesian tourism to the world market.
Kandia said that the separation of the culture and tourism ministerial posts would enable the tourism ministry to focus its fund on the tourism development.
"Next year, Denpasar will get a fund of Rp6 trillion, of which Rp3 trillion will be allocated for the cultural sector and the other Rp3 trillion will be for the cultivation of the tourism sector," he said.
He said that the fund for the cultural sector was social in nature and would be used to develop and preserve cultural arts.
This condition is different from that of tourism which has business orientation where the fund allocation was expected to attract as many foreign tourists as possible.
Kandia said that the more foreign tourists who could be attracted to visit Indonesia, the more foreign exchange earning the country could get.***
