RI, EGYPT COOPERATING TO DEVELOP SHARIA-BASED MICRO ECONOMY
Jakarta, Sept 10 (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Egypt, through the Al-Azhar University's Salih Kamil Center for Islamic Economics (SKCIE), are cooperating in the development of sharia-based micro economy, an official said.
"We will cooperate in developing various matters on sharia-based micro economy," Neddy of the Human Resources Development of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small-scale Enterprises (UKM), said here on Thursday.
He said that Indonesia had a good sharia-based economic basis which had even served as a pioneer project for other countries.
Egypt itself is a country which has based its economic development on the Sharia principles since a long time ago, he said.
"There are two different cultures between the people of Egypt and that of Indonesia. One of the example is that they are very strict in production sharing calculations," Neddy said.
Therefore, he said, Indonesia will use as a reference the results of its consultations with Egypt for the development of its macro economy.
Recently, SKCIE's economists have expressed their willingness to become financial and sharia-based economic consultants for Indonesia's cooperatives and UKM businesses.
The Egyptian economists will also train Indonesian teachers on sharia-based financial service cooperatives.
The ministry of cooperatives and UKM has signed a memorandum of understanding with SKCIE in 2004.
Neddy visited Egypt last month to follow up the MoU and extended the cooperation until another one year.
"Both sides agreed to set up a small team to elaborate the MoU and operational programs," he said.
He said that both sides needed to work out a follow up plan or a working agenda.
Neddy is of the view that SKCIE has vary advanced sharia economic theories which they formulated from their research.
In the meantime, Indonesia in practice is more progressive in terms of quality and quantity in banks and non-banks, in this case cooperatives.***
