By Lee Youkyung

SEOUL, Sept. 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares traded 0.35 percent higher late Friday morning as retailers and banks extended their gains on hefty foreign buying, analysts said.

After bobbing in and out of positive territory, the benchmark Korea Composite
Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 5.69 points to 1,650.37 as of 11:20 a.m.
Heavy foreign buying pulled shares of leading retailers and banks higher,
including Hyundai Department Store Co. and KB Financial Group, pushing up the
main bourse.
The local currency was trading at 1,221.05 won to the U.S. dollar as of 11:20
a.m., up 3.45 won from Thursday's close.
