C BANGKA NEEDS INVESTORS TO DEVELOP ITS TOURISM
Koba, Indonesia, Sept 12 (ANTARA) - Central Bangka District in Bangka Belitung (Babel) province expects private investors to play a greater role in developing the region's tourism industry because it lacks enough budget funds for the purpose. a spokesman said.
"We hope private investors will help to develop Central Bangka's tourism industry because the local government still has to give priority to poverty eradication ," GA Suriansyah, head of Central Bangka district's tourism, culture, youth and sports office, said here Saturday.
He said his office was now trying to interest investors in developing some of the district's high-value tourism sites.
"A few days ago, investors from the Netherlands were here and expressed interest in developing coral reef dive and shipwreck exploration tourism, and now we are waiting for their folowup steps," he said.
The local government had warmly welcomed the Dutch investors' interest because Centra; Bangka district's waters abounded in coral reefs and held many shipwrecks, he said.
"The coral reefs and shipwrecks could become a huge underwater museum that will attract domestic and international tourists," he said.
Another thing with great touristic potential in Central Bangka district was hot springs in Keretak village, Sungai Selan subdistrict.
"Keretak village has hot springs which never dry up even in the dry season, and if it's well managed, they will attract many tourists," he said.
Even now, the hot springs were often being visited by locals from other villages because they believed the spring water can cure rheumatism and skin diseases.
"These hot springs also promise good business if they are well managed," he said. ***
