QUAKE VICTIMS BEGIN TO SUFFER FROM DISEASES
Pelabuhanratu, W Java, Sept 13 (ANTARA) - A number of earthquake victims sheltered at emergency tents at Pelabuhanratu in Sukabumi district, West Java, have begun to suffer from upper tract infection and skin diseases.
"Several earthquake victims are suffering from upper tract infection and skin diseases," Pelabuhanratu subdistrict head Dedi Chardiman said on Sunday.
Chardiman said the subditrict authorities had sent a medical team from the nearby public health post to provide medical treatment to the quake victims.
Sukabumi is one of the areas which bore the brunt of a magnitude-7.3 earthquake on September 2, 2009.
The quake hit 16 districts in West Java, leaving 73 people dead and more than 600 others injured.
In West Java alone, 54,171 houses were seriously damaged and 114,601 others lightly in the earthquake.
The quake also caused major damage to 1,246 houses and light damage to 1,446 houses in Cilacap district, Central Java.
