WB recommendations on using gas to produce power in Yemen

SANA'A, Sep. 14 (Saba) -
The World Bank has asked Yemen to identify its gas reserves so that the national
program
for using gas to produce electricity, implemented with technical assistance from the
bank, can be developed.
A report on the first phase of the program noted that WB advised Yemen to
immediately amend the tender document over asking for consultation services to
determine Yemen's
gas reserves.
The move is aimed to give priority to accelerating gas reserves certificates for
the blocks 18th, 5th, S1, S2, and 20th, and in case the certificates are basically
contradicted
with forecast and identified gas quantities by the ministry of Oil and Minerals the
program must be amended.
The bank also advised the government to prepare a legal vision regarding its right
to supply the Mareb 1st, 2nd and 3rd plants with gas through gas production and
treatment
plants at the block 18th, warning the three plants may consume over their
consumption age more than 1 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves under agreements
with the Yemeni
Liquefied Natural Gas Company.
A WB mission has stressed the importance of a precise and comprehensive allocation
of gas quantities at various fields to produce power by the Mareb Gas Power Plant
as
well as identifying plants to be established and supplied with gas at the block 18th.
The authorities must work to synchronize between gas quantities to be produced and
those to be used, the WB said, urging the government to prepare the best Scenario
for
gas power plants in Mareb regarding suing the complex and simple circles as well as
preparing an estimate allocation of initial associated gas at the block 5th.
The WB also asked Yemen to conduct necessary technical studies to boost electrical
transport system and its connection with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Mareb Gas Power Plants
and
set timetables for the 2nd plant.
