Defense Minister visits military units in Amran
SANA'A, Sep. 14 (Saba)- Minister of
Defense Brig. Gen. Mohammad Nasser visited on Monday several military and security
units
stationing in the restive district of Harf Sufyan in Amran province.
Nasser praised the high morals and heroic features of the military and security
units and their courage in all confrontations with al-Houthi rebel groups.
He affirmed that the armed and security forces currently stand steadfastly in the
honor and bravery battlefields to make overwhelming victories against the rebel and
outlaw
elements who committed brutal crimes against the innocent citizens in Saada province.
Meanwhile, the minister urged soldiers to carry out their assignments related to
eradicating the terrorist and rebel gangs and enhancing security and stability as
well as
protecting citizens from the rebels' criminal and terrorist acts.
Al- Houthi rebels have been launching intermittent wars against the troops since 2004.
Since the fighting erupted in 2004, thousands of people, soldiers and insurgents
have been killed in Saada province, which located close to border with Saudi
Arabia, after
the rebel group was founded by rebel leader Hussein al- Houthi.
Hussein, the eldest brother of the current group leader Abdul-Malik, was killed by
the army in September 2004.
The Yemeni government accuses the Houthi group of trying to reinstall the rule of
imams, which was toppled by a republican revolution in northern Yemen in 1962.
According to the UN mission there are more than 160.000 displaced people due to the
recent confrontations between the army and rebels.
