INDONESIAN GOVT TO RAISE COAL PRODUCTION TARGET

Jakarta, Sept 16 (ANTARA) - The government will raise the target of coal production in 2009 from 230 million to 250 million tons, the director general of minerals, coal and geothermal, Bambang Setiawan said here on Wednesday.

He said the hike would be used to meet domestic and export demand besides for increasing state non-tax income.

He said the weather was now good making coal mining easier. He said in 2010 coal production was expected to reach 250 million tons.

Most of the country's coal production or 60 percent is for exports while 40 percent for domestic needs such as energy resource in power plants.
