U.S., Yemen sign assistance agreement worth anticipated $121 million

SANA'A, Sep. 16 - (Saba)- The U.S. Embassy in Sana'a announced on Wednesday the signing of a bilateral
assistance
agreement between the United States and Yemen to fund essential development projects
in the fields of health, education, democracy and governance, agriculture and
economic
development.

In a press release, the embassy said that the agreement, which provides over $30
million this year and an anticipated total of $121 million over its three-year
program,
is a reaffirmation of the friendship between the people of the United States and
Yemen, and of the United States' commitment to helping Yemen overcome its
development challenges.
"In conjunction with the reform efforts to which the Government of Yemen has
committed, this development assistance will help to improve the lives of thousands
of Yemeni
citizens", the embassy added.
The agreement was signed by U.S. ambassador to Yemen Stephen A.
Seche, Country Director for the United States Agency for International Development
Dr. Jeffrey Ashley, and Planning and International Cooperation Minister Abdul-Karim
al-Arhabi.
