Boryung seeks permit for sale of Chinese-made flu vaccine

SEOUL, Sept. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Boryung Pharmaceutical Co. said
Thursday that it has applied for permission to begin domestic sales of a Chinese
made vaccine for the Influenza A (H1N1) virus within the year.
The company signed a contract with China's Sinovac Biotech Ltd. earlier this
month to import as many as 10 million doses of the vaccine, enough to inoculate
some 5 million people against the contagious disease.
Boryung's application for the sale of the Chinese-made vaccine is the country's
first among flu vaccines produced by foreign makers, the company said.
Eight South Koreans have died of flu-related complications since the epidemic
was first reported here in early May.
