INVESTORS EAGER TO BUILD ORGANIC FERTILIZER PLANTS IN N SUMATRA

Medan, Indonesia, Sept 18 (ANTARA) - Five investors are eager to build organic fertilizer plants in North Sumatra province at a cost of Rp1.2 billion each, a spokesman said.

"The fertilizer plants will be built in Simalungun, Binjai and Humbang Hasundutan. Petrokimia is studying their proposals to decide whether or not to cooperate with them," the head of the fertilizer maker's retail sales division for Sumatra, Sudigdo, said on Friday.

The five investors include PT. Humbahas Organik Industri, PT. Pupuk Agri Mandiri and PT. Megamas Alam Sumatera.

Under the cooperation, Petrokimia would provide the companies with machines with a production capacity of 10 tons each. Each of the machines was priced at Rp1.2 billion, he said.

To date, the province has one organic fertilizer plant located in Deli Serdang.

He said Petrokimia was trying to increase its production capacity in response to higher demand for organic fertilizer.

Many farmers had now realized that the organic fertilizer not only could increase the productivity of their farm land but also help improve soil structure in a favour of cultivation in the long run, he said.

He said Petrokimia was ready to buy organic fertilizers to be produced by the five companies.***
