HEALTH-ROTAVIRUS 2 LAST
Good hygiene and sanitation do not effectively stop
rotavirus disease, so immunisation is the best defence. The
vaccine protects 98 per cent of kids from severe diarrhoea and
74 per cent from getting rotavirus diarrhoea at all.
According to the US Center for Disease Control (CDC),
rotavirus infects almost all children by age five.
The recommended dose for the vaccine is two or three
doses before the age of eight months. Unlike most vaccines,
the rotavirus vaccine is given by mouth rather than as an
injection.
The recommended ages are two months, four months and
six months.
The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) advises
against starting the vaccine series in babies over 14 weeks
and six days old.
The vaccine is not recommended for babies once they
turn eight months old, because there is not enough evidence to
show how well it works in older babies and some evidence that
they are more likely to suffer adverse reactions, like fever.
