President Lee vows increased support for workers
SEOUL, Sept. 21 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak vowed Monday to continue increasing government assistance for the nation's workers, while also calling on citizens to help one another through sharing and support.
The president said the recent launch of a 2-trillion-won (US$1.65 billion)
microcredit fund was one of the government's key programs designed to help those
trying to get back on their feet.
"Assisting those working to stand on their own through low interest loans and
other support is the key point of the government's people-first policy," he said
in his biweekly national radio address. The speech was pre-recorded last week
before he began a seven-day trip to the United States on Sunday to take part in
the general assembly of the United Nations and the G-20 economic summit.
"I hope the spirit of love, sharing, gratitude and harmony will spread throughout
our society with the launch of this new program," the president said.
