Green Cross bids for WHO-led flu vaccine scheme
By Nam Kwang-sik
SEOUL, Sept. 22 (Yonhap) -- Green Cross Corp., a South Korean drugmaker, said
Tuesday it has bid for a World Health Organization (WHO) scheme to provide 400
million doses of Influenza A (H1N1) flu vaccine to South America.
Green Cross has submitted a bid for the order placed by the Pan American Health
Organization (PAHO), a regional WHO body, to supply the flu vaccines to South
America, the company said in a statement.
According to Green Cross, the PAHO recently allowed the South Korean firm to bid
to supply vaccines for the scheme. The move represents the first time a Korean
firm has bid to provide flu vaccines to the WHO.
The company however did not disclose how many doses of vaccine it has proposed to
supply to the WHO.
On Monday, the company said it has signed a 42.6 billion won (US$35.3 million)
deal with the government to provide 5.86 million doses of the flu vaccine.
Shares of Green Cross rose 0.61 percent to 164,000 won as of 10:36 a.m. on the
Korea Exchange.
