PRESIDENT TO NAME THREE ACTING KPK LEADERS
Jakarta, Sept 22 (ANTARA) - Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa said here on Tuesday President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would name three persons to fill the vacant posts in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
He however declined to mention the names of the persons and the positions the three were currently holding.
"Yes. All the vacancies are to be filled," he said when asked on the number of acting officials to be named by the President, after a meeting at the State Secretariat with Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi and Acting Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sri Mulyani.
He said the three may come from any background so long as they met the requirements namely they were credible in the field and acceptable to the public.
"In short, they come from various backgrounds. The most important thing is that they are credible in the field and acceptable," he said.
Right now, he said, the President was still considering various inputs for use to choose the three persons. He said he did not know if the President already had certain names. "I would not dare to speculate," he said.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has signed a government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) to change Law Number 30 of 2002 on KPK and a decisions for the suspension of KPK associate chairmen Chandra Hamzah and Bibit Samad Rianto.
Hatta said the Perppu only had two additional articles namely among other things regarding the president's authority to directly name acting KPK officials in case of a void.
"Therefore, it will be followed by a presidential decree on the appointment of the officials," he said.
Hatta declined to tell when the president would sign the decree. After the meeting, Hatta and Sudi immediately left the office for the residence of President Yudhoyono in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java.
He declined to tell if he would submit the draft decree to the president. "I would not like to bypass the president. Just wait and see. I will certainly inform you in case there is a new development," he said.
President Yudhoyono is scheduled to leave the country on Wednesday for a seven-day visit to the United States.
