Seven children die of encephalitis, toll touches 318

Gorakhpur (UP), Sept 22 (PTI) Seven more children
succumbed to the dreaded encephalitis during past two days at
BRD Medical College Hospital here, taking the death toll to
318 since January this year, official sources said.

According to additional director health Dr LP Rawat 44
new patients of suspected encephalitis were admitted to the
hospital during the period.

Rawat said that 280 patients are being treated at BRD
Medical College and 36 in other government hospitals of the
region.

He said that a total of 1565 patients suffering from
Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome were
admitted this year to BRD Medical College and other hospitals
of the region, of this 318 died. PTI
