STOCKS-CLOSE 2 LST

Among the 30-share BSE index, 25 scrips led by Infosy
Technologies closed with losses and five ended with gains.

The falling trend was restricted as the Sensex heavy
weight, Reliance Industries, rose by Rs 5.05 at Rs 2,101.40.

HDFC Bank, Sterlite Industries, ONGC and Sun Pharma were
also among the gainers.

Supported by RIL and ONGC, the oil and gas sector index
gained 0.16 per cent at 10,139.86.

Brokers said the market discounted firm European stocks,
which had triggered a partial intra-day recovery and shed
substantial ground on selling pressure by investors.

Even reports that the World Bank has approved four
projects in India to bolster its economic stimulus programme
and support the infrastructure sector failed to stem the
downward slide.

The market witnessed heavy sell-off in the last thirty
minutes as investors unloaded their long outstanding positions
in the Futures & Options.

The realty sector index shed 2.31 per cent at 4,414.64
and teck index lost 1.98 per cent at 3,237.04. Information
Technologies index was down by 1.72 per cent at 4,562.98 and
Capital goods by 1.55 per cent at 13,500.92. PTI RS
