KT to launch on-line apps store

SEOUL, Sept. 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korean telecom giant KT Corp. said Thursday it
will launch an on-line application store this year, allowing users to upload and
download applications for mobile phones.

The company aims to open the "Show App Store" in November. It held a conference
Thursday in Seoul for software developers and bloggers to share its vision on the
so-called "mobile open market".
The move by the country's largest fixed-line telephone operator and
second-largest mobile carrier follows steps taken by its chief rival, SK Telecom
Co., which launched earlier this month the first mobile open market in South
Korea. SK Telecom is the country's largest mobile carrier.
The on-line market will initially allow users to download applications from
personal computers to mobile handsets, and later make the service available on
Internet TVs and Internet-based home phones, KT officials said.
