Seoul to host ASEAN culture fair
SEOUL, Sept. 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will host an international festival
featuring top performing artists from 10 Asian states this week to commemorate
the 20th anniversary of dialogue partnership between the country and a regional
association, Seoul's culture ministry said Thursday.
The 10-member organization, known as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN), is South Korea's third largest trading partner and investment
destination.
The ASEAN Culture & Tourism Fair, running for two days from Saturday at Yongsan
Plaza, central Seoul, will feature performances by top dance groups as well as
craftworks and food representing the member nations, the ministry said in a press
release.
Under the theme "Together in Culture: ASEAN and Korea," Brunei's The Lively Dance
Group, Indonesia's Masyarakat Musik Angklung, Malaysia's Dewangga Sakti,
Singapore's The Main Wayang Company and other groups will be performing.
The ASEAN-Korea Center, an inter-governmental organization established in 2006 to
expand trade and cultural exchanges between the two, will also set up booths
providing information on tours to the ASEAN countries.
