S. Korea to host G-20 summit in 2010: President Lee

PITTSBURGH, United States, Sept. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will host a G-20
economic summit next year when it will also take the chairmanship of the forum,
South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said Friday in a joint press conference with
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
The November meeting in South Korea will be the fifth for the forum, launched
late last year in the face of an unfolding global economic crisis. Canada will
host the fourth G-20 meeting in June on the sidelines of the G-8 summit there,
the leaders said.
The announcement came shortly before they were to attend the economic conference
here.
"The G-20 is the gathering of the most powerful leaders of the global community.
Hosting of such a meeting means our country will play a pivotal role in steering
the world in resolving global issues as the chair of the G-20," Sakong Il, a
special adviser to the South Korean president, told reporters.
