GAS EXPLORATION BEGINS IN MERATUS RANGE
Banjarmasin, Indonesia, Sept 25 (ANTARA) - Two mining companies begin exploring their coalbed methane (CBM) in the Meratus range, South Kalimantan.
The two companies are PT Barito Basin Gas and PT Indobarambai Gas Methan. They already have the permits from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
Barito Kuala Deputy Regent Sukardi said the two companies are conducting explorations in two different locations, namely PT Barito Basin Gas in Banjar 2 Barito Block, and PT Indobarambai Gas Menthan in Banjar 3 Barito Block here Friday.
These companies are also cooperating with an Australian university research team which have the equipment and skills in dealing with methane.
The research site is along the Meratus Range which is rich with coal deposits, and the research was started last month.
The exploration starts at some of the sites in the Meratus range like Central Hulu Sungai, South hulu Sungai and Tapin.
"The researchers are also trying to find the sources of gas in the slopes of the Meratus range and the gas deposits in Barito Kuala, as well as the relation between one region's gas potential and the others", he said.
Head of the South Kalimantan Mining Agency Ali Mazanie said that the explorations are measuring the gas deposits in South Kalimantan, the depth and explorations in the next 5 to 10 years.
