YEMEN, U.S. TALK COOPERATION

NEW YORK, Sep. 25 (Saba) – On the sidelines of the 64th U.N. General Assembly, Foreign minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi met with U.S. deputy Department of State Jack Leo.

The two discussed mutual cooperation in areas such as development and combating terror.

The meeting reviewed the humanitarian situation in the war-racked region of Saada in northern Yemen where a military offensive launched last month is continuing killing rebels and arresting others as well as destroying their positions and seizing their weapons.

Al-Qirbi highlighted the government's efforts to help relief agencies reach the affected, saying the government responded positively for calls for providing safe routes for the agencies to provide aid for thousands of the people who fled confrontations.

He, however, said that the job of the agencies has been blocked as the Houthi insurgents refused to adhere to ceasefires and continued to attack the people and aid staffs.

For his part, Leo assured Yemen that it has the right to protect its national security from any subversive acts, urging further cooperation to help the displaced.

Al-Qirbi flew to New York on Tuesday to take part in the 64th U.N. General Assembly.
