Govt raises students' issue with Australia
New Delhi, Sep 25 (PTI) With many colleges in Australia
facing closure for non-performance, India Friday demanded that
its students studying in such institutes be accommodated in
good colleges there.
Visiting Victorian Premier John Brumby met India's Human
Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal who told him
that Indian students should not be left in the lurch if
certain colleges are closed after a review being conducted to
ascertain quality.
"Many colleges in Victoria state of Australia are likely
to be closed down if they are found to be not delivering as
per their promises. I told Brumby that the students in these
colleges will have to be accommodated in other good institutes
in the same city. Brumby has given a concrete assurance on
this," he told reporters.
Sibal's views assume significance as three colleges have
been closed down recently in Australia for poor standards. The
Victorian government has launched a rapid audit to look into
the standards of private education providers.
Sibal said Brumby has also assured that the perpetrators
of the attacks on Indians will be brought to justice. About 30
Indian students have suffered attacks in Victoria in the
recent months. More PTI BKM
