S. Korea to offer US$300,000 in aid for Yemeni victims of rebellion

SEOUL, Sept. 26 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will provide Yemen with US$300,000 in
emergency aid, as a growing number of residents in the northern part of the
country are displaced by fierce clashes between rebels and government troops,
Seoul's foreign ministry said Saturday.

At least 50 were confirmed dead in clashes in Yemen's Saada and Amran provinces,
with more than 150,000 others displaced, according to foreign news reports.
"The government has decided to send the emergency aid money to take part in the
international community's humanitarian efforts to help displaced people," the
ministry said.
The United Nations earlier asked for the world to provide US$23.7 million in
emergency aid for them.
Street battles have intensified in the the Middle Eastern state since clashes
between Yemeni government troops and the rebels, also known as Huthis, resumed in
mid-August.
