Winter session of Parliament likely in 2nd week of November

New Delhi, Sept 26 (PTI) The winter session of Indian
Parliament is likely to commence from second week of November.

Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament) Speaker
Meira Kumar Saturday expressed the possibility when asked
about reports that the session is likely to begin from
November nine.

She, however, said no decision has been taken so far.

Reports had it that the session is likely to be a
six-week affair. Normally the winter session lasts for four
weeks beginning in the last week of November to end just
before Christmas.

Replying to questions, Kumar felt Parliament should sit
at least 110 days in a year.

The Speaker, who is leading a Parliamentary delegation
to the 55th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Arusha in
Tanzania from September 29 to October five, favoured more
sittings of Parliament.

The theme of the conference is "Meeting Future Global
Challenges". The Speaker is the President of Commonwealth
Parliamentary Association (CPA), Indian region.

She will be the lead speaker in the workshop on "The
Role of Parliament in Shaping the Information Society". PTI
