(ATTN: RECASTS headline, lead; UPDATES with details in paras 2-4)
INCHEON, Sept. 27 (Yonhap) -- A small plane crashed into the site of an
international festival in this port city west of Seoul Sunday, killing the
aircraft's passenger and injuring the pilot and 11 festival attendants, police
said.
The light aircraft, which was flying as part of the Global Fair & Festival 2009
Incheon, crashed into an empty bus parked on the site at 12:50 p.m., killing the
46-year-old passenger.
The pilot and 11 people who were hurt during the crash were rushed to a nearby
hospital. The pilot was being treated for mild injuries while the rest were sent
back home, police said.
"The plane lost balance after its left wing got caught on a kite and flew in
several circles before crashing," an eyewitness said.
Police said they will continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
The international event, taking place in South Korea's third-largest city, opened
on Aug. 7 for an 80-day run and hosts exhibitions, conferences and events related
to urban development.
