Seoul shares open lower on Wall Street losses
SEOUL, Sept. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started weaker Monday as falls in U.S. markets dented investor sentiment, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) declined 18.86 points, or
1.11 percent, to 1,672.62 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. markets closed lower Friday as disappointing economic data raised questions
about the sustainability of the economic recovery. The Dow Jones industrial
average shed 0.44 percent and the tech-laden Nasdaq composite index declined 0.79
percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,188.9 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
down 2.8 won from Friday's close.
