INDONESIAN NEW HOUSE MEMBERS TO BE INAUGURATED THURSDAY

Jakarta, Sept 28 (ANTARA) - The new members of the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2009-2014 period will be inaugurated on Thursday, October 1, 2009, in Jakarta.

Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Management Center (TMC) spokesman Adjunct Commissioner Sugeng Budiono said here on Monday around 2,500 policemen would be deployed to ensure security during the inaugural ceremony.

He said the Metropolitan Police would stage a show of force led by Jakarta Police Chief Insp Gen Wahyono on Monday morning.

According to Budiono, personnel from the Mobile Police Brigade (Brimob), Samapta, and Traffic Police (Satlantas) would also be involved in the show off.

With the joint security measure, Budiono said the inauguration of the new DPR members on Thursday is expected to run smoothly and peacefully.

Meanwhile, People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Hidayat Nurwahid suggested that the inauguration will be organized moderately, adding that the essence of the inauguration was not on its extravagant manner, but rather on the commitment of the new legislators to be the true representatives of the people.

An Indonesian Budget Center (IBC) observer Roy Salama also called on the General Election Commission (KPU) to be transparent in the House Members' inaugural budget and its spendings.

"We want the KPU to be more transparent if it comes to its budget for the inauguration of the new law makers," Roy Salam said.
