BEI INDEX OPENS LOWER ON WALL STREET LOSSES
Jakarta, Sept. 28 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on Monday morning opened lower on Wall Street losses.
The BEI index lost 23.434 points or 0.98 percent to 2,424.129 points and the LQ-45 index fell 5.726 or 1.21 percent to 472,596.66 points.
The Indonesian stocks were affected by the continued losses on Wall Street and regional bourses, Harry Kurniawan, a capital market observer, said here on Monday.
The rupiah weakened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Monday morning on negative market sentiments following regional bourse losses.
The Indonesian currency traded at Rp9,715-Rp9,725 per US dollar, down 65 points from the market's close last weekend.
Because of the absence of positive internal factors, negative external factors dominated trading at the BEI, he said.
Kurniawan believed the BEI index would continue to fall but not too far below 2,400 points.
Astra Internasional shares fell Rp850 to Rp30,450, United Tractor shares lost Rp250 to Rp14,600, Astra Agro Lestari shares sank Rp250 to Rp20,850, Gudang Garam shares dropped Rp200 to Rp14,400, Bukit Asam shares went down Rp 150 to Rp14,000, state telecommunication company Telkom shares plunged Rp150 to Rp8,500 and private bank Danamon shares slump Rp100 to Rp4,750.
