RI BUSINESSMEN EXPLORING BUSINESS COOPERATION IN SLOVAKIA

London, Sept 28 (ANTARA) -- Indonesian businessmen had a business meeting with their Slovak counterparts grouped in the Slovak Trade and Investment Development Agency (SARIO) and the Indonesia-Slovakia Chamber of Commerce (SIOK) at the Indonesian embassy in Bratislava.

Embassy First Secretary Wanton Saragih Sidauruk said Monday Indonesian leading companies conducted a business mission to Slovakia from September 22 to 28, 2009.
On the occasion Indonesian Ambassador to Slovakia Harsha E. Joesoef in his brief address said the two countries have ample opportunities to develop business cooperation.

He said that with a per capita income of 20,000 US dollars, the people of Slovakia have a significant purchasing power for Indonesian products.

The Slovak economy in 2007 and 2008 had been growing by more than eight percent per annum, the highest in Europe.

In the meantime, Juraj Sumichrast of SARIO said Slovakia's strategic geographic position in the heart of Europe if combined with its neighboring countries Austria, Czeck Republic, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, Croatia, and Bulgaria, would offer a big market with a potential of 300 million people.

The Indonesian businessmen on the business mission included Mucki P.L. Tan of PT. Rodamas, Ipung Kurnia of PT. Hero Group, Husodo Angkosubroto of PT. Gunung Sewu Kencana, Pino Iskandar of PT. Conbloc Infratenco, Jimmy Masrin of PT. Lautan Luas Tbk, Iman Loebis of PT Java Motor, Indriani Ismail of Yogen Fruz, and Timur Sukirno of Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners.

They had business meetings with 25 medium and upper Slovak business companies such as Drevona holding, Kerametal a.s., DMD. Group, GBT Slovakia, Rona, a.s., and Padington Industrial consulting.

According to Wanton Saragih, in view of the existing opportunities and potentials, the business meetings had been focused more on explorations of cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, defence industry, energy, retail trade, construction and chemical industry.

He said that Sandiaga Uno of Saratoga Capital had a business meeting with Slavia Capital, Slovakia, to explore CPO development cooperation in the production of bio energy in Slovakia.

The current Indonesia-Slovakia bilateral trade had yet to be maximized in view of the existing potentials, he said.

In 2008 trade between the two countries increased from 113.14 million to 133.04 million euro, in which Indonesia's exports increased from 108.99 million to 123.54 million euro.

Indonesian commodities which had entered the market in Slovakia included food, footwear, electronic products, tin, plastics, garments, textile, wooden products including charcoal, furniture, musical instruments, organic chemicals, machinery and mechanical equipment, tobacco, fruits, coffee, tea and second crops.

Similar meetings were scheduled in January next year, Wanton Saragih Sidauruk said.***2***
