OCI completes new polysilicon plant

SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) -- OCI Co., a South Korean chemicals producer, said
Tuesday that it has completed construction of a new plant for the production of
polysilicon, becoming the world's No.2 polysilicon manufacturer.

OCI, formerly known as DC Chemical Co., spent 1.01 trillion won (US$847 million)
on construction of the factory in Gunsan, 274km south of Seoul. The complex has
an annual capacity of 10,000 tons of polysilicon, an essential raw material for
solar cells that convert sunlight into electricity.
The completion of the plant will boost OCI's annual production capacity to 16,500
tons.
