VP ATTENDS MPR FINAL SESSION
Jakarta, Sept 29 (ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla and his wife Mufiddah Kalla attended the final session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR)'s 2009-2014 term at Nusantara building here on Tuesday.
The vice president arrived at Nusantara building at 9:45 a.m. to attend the session where MPR chairman Hidayat Nurwahid would deliver a speech to mark the end of his term of office.
Present at the meeting were a number of United Indonesia Cabinet ministers and House of Representatives Speaker Agung Laksono.
The main agenda of the final session is for MPR to complete its tasks in the next two remaining days of Tuesday and Wednesday and the presentation of a report on the performance of its leaders, because on because on Thursday, October 1, 2009, the members of MPR, House of Representatives (DPR), and Regional Representatives Assembly (DPD) will be sworn in for 2009-2014 period.
Hidayat Nurwahid said earlier that during the session they would submit a report on matters related to the implementation of the duties and responsibilities of Assembly members during the 2004-2009 period as stipulated by law.
Hidayat said during the 2004-2009 period, the Assembly had entertained the idea of amending the 1945 Constitution.
"But in practice, the number of assembly members who agreed to the idea never reached two-thirds of the entire membership as required by the law," Hidayat disclosed.
About an audit carried out by the State Audit Board (BPK) on the MPR's finances which had resulted in a "reasonably without exception" opinion, Hidayat said it was a good thing for a state institution.
"The results of the audit from BPK is 'reasonably without exception', and it is good for a state institution", he said.
Asked whether he would stand in the election of chairman of the new Assembly, Hidayat said right now he was concentrating on the completion of his final tasks as MPR chairman.
